What a domain does — and does not do

A domain is an address used by websites, email and other services. It does not contain the website and it does not automatically include email. DNS records connect the name to those services. The registration must be renewed according to the registry and registrar terms.

Choose the name for real-world use

Prefer a name that can be said, heard and typed without explanation.
Check spelling, common mishearings and awkward letter combinations.
Avoid adding a town, service or keyword unless it is genuinely part of the long-term brand.
Check trade marks, company names and existing businesses before committing.
Consider both the website address and the email address that staff will say aloud.

Keep the registration recoverable

Use accurate registrant details, a monitored recovery email and multi-factor authentication where the registrar supports it. Record the registrar, expiry date and renewal method outside the registrar account. A domain is too important to depend on a single inbox or individual.

Test the name before committing
