Separate content editing from site design

Routine editors should be able to update text, images and structured content without rebuilding headers, spacing and responsive rules. A successful implementation uses templates, patterns and global styles to constrain design decisions. Giving every editor unrestricted visual controls often creates inconsistency and fragile pages.

Choose with real content

Build a representative service page, article, landing page, form and mobile navigation before committing. Test the longest heading, smallest phone width, missing image, translated content and an editor who did not build the site. Demo templates hide many of these constraints.

Assess portability and replacement

What remains readable if the builder plugin is disabled?
Can templates, global styles and reusable components be exported?
How much short-code or builder-specific markup remains in content?
Can another supplier maintain the site without proprietary internal knowledge?
Which licence features are required for existing pages to keep working?

Measure performance and accessibility

Compare a representative page on the same hosting and image set. Review rendered HTML, keyboard navigation, headings, focus, forms, responsive behaviour and Core Web Vitals. Do not rely only on a builder’s promotional benchmark or an empty starter template.

Govern the editing experience

Document which tool controls headers, footers, templates, page content and custom fields. Disable overlapping editing routes where practical. Provide named reusable patterns and restrict administrator access so routine content staff cannot accidentally change global site structure.
